Your customer scans the QR code

Using just a phone camera, your customer opens your product's traceability page, showcasing every step you've chosen to publish.

Seeing exactly what goes into your product - and where it was made, gives customers the confidence to choose your product and to come back and try the rest of your range.

Every scan becomes a chance to make another sale.

The production steps shown above are just examples. How many steps you record or publish is entirely up to you, your process and your business.

FAQ

The blockchain bit, in plain terms

What sits underneath the records, what it does and how it works.

Why use Blockchain?

VerifiedItem uses blockchain technology to add an independent and immutable layer of verification to product traceability.

Creating secure tamper-evident records of key product and supply-chain events, providing businesses and customers with greater confidence in a product’s provenance, authenticity and history.

This is particularly valuable when the information passes between suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and customers.

Why the Electroneum blockchain?

VerifiedItem believes product traceability should be accessible, affordable and easy to use for every business. That’s why we're using the Electroneum blockchain.

It’s secure, processes transactions quickly with low network fees, is energy-efficient compared with other blockchains and provides independent proof that a recorded traceability event has not subsequently been changed.

A reliable foundation for recording and verifying product information.

What gets recorded on the chain?

A system could record or anchor the events along a product’s route:

Raw material → Manufacturer → Certification → Shipment → Finished product → Customer

Each stage generates verifiable blockchain records. A customer scanning a QR code or batch number can then see evidence supporting a product’s origin, chain of custody, certifications or sustainability claims.

Because Electroneum supports smart contracts, applications can automate parts of that process rather than simply storing transaction records.

How does the record get onto the blockchain?

You don’t need a wallet or any blockchain knowledge. When you create or update a batch in VerifiedItem, the platform signs and submits the record to a smart contract on the Electroneum blockchain for you.

Once the transaction is confirmed, the batch’s traceability page links to it, so anyone scanning the QR code can see the on-chain proof for themselves.

Do I or my customers need to know anything about blockchain to be able to use this?

No, nothing at all. You record your batches and production steps on VerifiedItem, and we take care of the blockchain behind the scenes.

There are no wallets, crypto or technical settings to deal with. Your customers scan the QR code to see your product’s story on a simple traceability page, with the blockchain verification details there if they want them.

How much does it cost to record on the blockchain?

Nothing. Recording on the blockchain is free, with no extra cost on any licence. VerifiedItem handles it all for you, so there’s nothing to set up or pay for.
